Newark Airport History


The history of Newark airport is interesting, as it is one of the world's busiest airports. Newark Airport was actually the first major airport in the New York / New Jersey area. It officially opened in late 1928, geographically situated in a strategically located area in the state of New Jersey. The airport has been visited by countless celebrities and famous aviators throughout the years. In 1935, Amelia Earhart personally dedicated the Newark Airport Administration Building. This terminal happened to be North America's first commercial airline terminal. in 1948, Newark Airport was taken over by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In the 1970s the airport underwent significant renovstions and expansion. It was in these years that the airport was officially renamed Newark International Airport. The expansion included the construction of the current Terminals A, B, and C.
