Airport and Airline Gripes, Complaints, Compliments, and Comments

Philadelphia Airport History

In 1926, Phildelphia Airport was first used for training flights. It was initially called Municipal Aviation Landing Field which quickly evolved into Philadelphia Municipal Airport. In the following years, the federal government supplied the airfield with a government grant specifically aimed at airport expansion. After construction of a new terminal building and an expanded airfield, the airport officially opened to the public in 1940. Four airlines initially served the Philadelphia airport. They were United, Eastern, TWA, and American airlines. By the end of 1945, Philadelphia Municipal Airport was renamed Philadelphia International Airport when transatlantic flights were first introduced to Philadelphia. The original terminal was replaced by a newly constructed, state-of-th-art facility in 1953.
